Master Bedroom with Built in Headboard Cabinet & Dog Bed Drawer
It’s finally done!!! No more sleeping in the middle of the living room in the basement. Hallelujah!
This was our first time participating in the One Room Challenge, and I have to say, I’m so glad we did! Summer is the busiest time for both John and I at work, and being part of a challenge really forced us to stick to a timeline, which I’m very grateful for! Plus, following along with the other participants definitely got me motivated!
For those of you who haven’t seen how we got started you can check out our previous posts under DIY Master Bedroom.
A little reminder of where we started:
And here we are now!

Now let’s take a walk down memory lane. Planning this room really started when we bought this house (almost 4 years ago). I bought the brick paneling from Lowes shortly after we moved in, and it sat in our garage until this summer. Now that it’s up, I’m upset that I wasted so much time letting it collect dust. This was definitely the easiest part of the transformation! Check out our post on how we put up the brick paneling.
I had a completely different plan for the headboard, but that all changed because of Covid-19. The fabric I wanted was on back-order, so I decided to cancel my order and create a new plan that could incorporate the old one once I was able to get the materials. Well, that’s probably never going to happen now! I love the headboard we came up with! Over the past 6 months I’ve learned that clutter makes me anxious, and this headboard and bedframe are the answer to my clutter problems!
Now I can keep my skincare neatly tucked away, but still reach it while in bed (Do your skincare routine in bed, I swear its life changing! It really has changed how easily I go to sleep!).

Before the renovation, whenever we had company over I felt the need to have the bedroom door shut to hide the dog beds. No matter how clean they are, they always look messy! Now we can easily tuck them away, and the room looks great!

I have the coziest nook to read (or listen to) my books. Thanks to my amazing sister for buying me this beautiful chair before Pier1 closed their Canadian stores.
And we finally hung some photos! This was something that was missing throughout our house, and our bedroom seemed like the perfect place to display photos of us through the years and some of the places we’ve traveled.

I think it’s pretty safe to say the pups are happy with their new room too!

I am so grateful to finally have our bedroom feel like a place we can truly relax. This was by far the most difficult, time consuming, expensive project we’ve done. But holy smokes, was it worth it! I mean, c’mon! Who wouldn’t want to jump in that bed and relax?

Huge shout out to my family for all their help, we couldn’t of done it with out them!

Picture Frames: Good ol’ value village! Except the 2 black metal ones came from Urban Barn years ago!
Fan: Costco (but we painted the hardware black)

That built in headboard really is something special and something you should be really proud of
Thanks so much Lindsey, it was definitely worth the work!
